Elpoca Mountain from below Piper Pass # 18714

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2011.07.16
Vantage Point: Upper Piper Creek

Caption: The north face of Elpoca Mountain from the Upper Piper Creek Valley. Mount Rae and the Rae Glacier in the background left.

PhotoDescr: Walking up meadows towards Piper Pass is a sublime experience. One of the best hikes in Kananaskis Country.

The scramble route on Elpoca is out of picture, and originates from the Elbow River Valley (between Elpoca and Rae in this photo).

Mount Rae has an easy scramble route that also starts out of photo, and originates from the incredibly popular Ptarmigan Cirque valley, accessed off of Highway 40 near Highwood Pass.

The Rae glacier is a decent ski objective before and after the seasonal road closure on Highway 40. We used our kids bike chariot to carry skis and gear up near Highwood Pass one Spring and got some decent turns in on the Rae Glacier.
