Academy Peak from the West # 18198

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2018.07.28
Vantage Point: From west end of ridge west of Academy

Caption: The photo shows the steep west face of Academy peak. The easy route up is on the right hand skyline, from the final col.

PhotoDescr: Our question when taking this photo is how difficult it might be to get to the final col before the right hand ascent route going up Academy. If you look at the TRIM map, you see that there are a couple of closed contours on the narrow ridge. The highest contour is at 2320m and then you drop 40 meters to the col.

We were heading east along the narrow ridge when I took the photo. From here, it looked like their might be trouble between us and the final col below the peak. And indeed, there were a couple of little pitches where you had to use your hands with mild exposure. Class 3.

By the time we got to the final col, the peak looks much easier. See Academy from the Col. With the slightly different angle, I can barely recognize it is the same peak.
