Palmers Pond # 18165

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2018.07.08
Vantage Point: Looking down from the HBC trail

Caption: Photo shows Palmer's Pond perched at the top of a steep cliff dropping into Montigny Creek.

PhotoDescr: Palmers pond is seriously misplaced on the 1:50K map. We had spent the previous day in the fog searching for it's supposed position above the trail. As you can see from the photo it is considerably below the trail. We would have seen it easily the day before had it been clear. Fog changes everything.

In the top left of the photo would be Montigny Pass which is only 1500m. I considered that perhaps the HBC Brigade trail could have saved some elevation by going through the low pass at the head of Montigny Creek (49.3609,-121.0598), since it is below 1500m. But a closer look at the map reveals lots of steep and difficult terrain going up the lower creek.
