Melvin, Melvin S1 and Viola Lake from Melvin SW2 # 17592

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2014.07.15
Vantage Point: From the top of the north couloir on Melvin SW2

Caption: Viola Lake below with Melvin Peak and Melvin S1 above.

PhotoDescr: I hiked Branch 4 off of Downton Creek Road and followed the Viola Lake Trail to the north side of Melvin SW2. From there I ascended snow slopes (around 350m in elevation gain) that got progressively steeper. Things got a little tricky nearer the top as there was ice just beneath the snow and I had to traverse left over to broken rock and scramble the last part.

There's an old Department of National Defense survey marker on the summit. The views were pretty good all round with options for ridge walking towards other peaks (Downton, Luke, Melvin S1 and Melvin) possible but my friend was waiting for me below so I returned the way I'd came.
