Windy Peak from Horseshoe Mountain # 17533

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2016.09.15
Vantage Point: From the eastern slope of Horseshoe Mountain

Caption: Pick Peak above Sunny Pass with Windy Peak behind and Topaz Mountain at right. Glacier Peak just visible in the far distance.

PhotoDescr: The Iron Gate Trailhead in the Pasayten Wilderness was packed with vehicles (including horse trailers) as it was the beginning of hunting season. I followed the trail through an extensive burn area to Sunny Pass and into Horseshoe Basin. From there I ascended open tundra slopes to Horseshoe Mountain.

Dropping down to Horseshoe Pass I headed up Arnold Peak then northwest to Armstrong Mountain which straddles the border (measuring the Canadian summit higher with my gps). Descending the south ridge of Armstrong to the Loudon Lake area (pretty dried up) I hiked the nearby Rock Mountain before heading back to Sunny Pass and a quick trip up Pick Peak.

I met a few hikers during the day and a dozen hunters looking for mule deer along with some horse folks. This area has a lot to offer with open peaks, good trails and nice views.
