Mount Fryatt West Ridge Route # 15664

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2012.08.25
Vantage Point: Alpine meadows above the 5th Geraldine Lake

Caption: Mount Fryatt's west ridge route is obvious from the alpine meadows above the 5th Geraldine Lake. This route should get more attention - even if you bypass the tough upper climbing section it's more direct than any other route by far.

PhotoDescr: In late August 2012 I was joined by Kev B, Eric C and Ferenc for a 36 hour car-to-car climb of Mount Fryatt.

We approached via Geraldine Lakes and bivy'd under the SW face by "Iceberg Lake". The climb was awesome and the weather was fantastic.

The environs of this area are pristine and stunningly beautiful - I'll be back to bag more peaks here, the suffering on approach is well worth it.

We were all tempted by the west ridge as we hiked past it - but the 5.8/5.9 upper section scared us off. On hindsight we could have made the 5.6 lower section and then traversed onto the SW face route beneath the hard climbing. That's what I'd do next time if I ever went back.
