Mount Steele from Steele Glacier # 15322

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1992.05.24
Vantage Point: Steele Glacier, near base of east ridge

Caption: Southeast Ridge of Steele from Steele Glacier

PhotoDescr: View of our route up the southeast ridge, taken from the Steele Glacier as we were leaving our base camp to ski out toward McCarthy, Alaska. The start of the ridge was up the steep scree slope in the photo. On the way up it was frozen solid and to reduce the terror, I used my crampons. On the way down it was thawed. We had three camps on the higher part of the ridge. We had good snow conditions, but the remnants of fixed lines suggested not everybody had such good snow. We were roped for almost all of it.
