Where is Athelstan? # 15303

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1984.09.28
Vantage Point: Mount Sampson

Caption: The West Peak of Mount Sampson Panorama

PhotoDescr: When I finally climbed Mount Sampson as a day trip after a couple of failed attempts in two and four days I had awesome visibility. Some distant peaks to the south (Wedge, Garibaldi) I recognized easily; for others to the north I had to study my maps at home.

The Meager Group, left of center, barely touching the horizon, I recognized from the summit. To the far left is the Manatee group. On the horizon in center is the Dalgleish - Lillooet Group with perhaps Gilbert and Raleigh in the far distance to the right. Mount Athelstan was most difficult to identify at the far right. Its round profile just below the horizon looks quite different from the accustomed view more from the southwest.
