Sentinel Range and Nonda Creek Valley # 14365

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2010.09.24
Vantage Point: Alaska Highway, just west of the east entrance into Muncho Lake Provincial Park

Caption: Looking northwest at the Sentinel Range near the confluence of Nonda Creek and the Toad River

PhotoDescr: Driving south from Watson Lake into Muncho Lake Provincial Park, I didn't see much more than heavy, dark clouds, driving sleet and snow, and dubious road conditions. After a few hours of worrying about driving up a mountain pass in such lousy weather with no snow tires, the Muncho Lake Lodge came into view. It was such a welcome beacon on that long, desolate stretch of the Alaska Highway. The next morning brought blue skies, picture-friendly clouds, and aspens everywhere in fall splendour, proving once again that in photography, luck and timing is (almost) everything.

Nonda Creek forms the eastern boundary of the park while the Toad River (at the bottom of the photo) flows past the southern edge of the Sentinel Range. This photo, taken just west of the confluence of those two rivers along the highway, only reinforces my belief that the best time to see northern BC is in the fall.
