Vantage Point: Summit Lake campground in Stone Mountain Provincial Park

Caption: Looking southwest towards Mount Saint George from the Summit Lake campground

PhotoDescr: On my first trip travelling through northern BC, I was able to see so much amazing scenery, all from the comfort of my car. My hiking gear, brought along with expectations of exploring new trails, had gone pretty much untouched in over three weeks. The cameras, on the other hand, were seeing hourly use with the onset of autumn colours. Except here in the northern stretch of the Rocky Mountains where winter was starting to set in. Unfortunately, BC Parks had closed most campgrounds shortly after Labour Day. Whether due to budget cuts or a lack of visitors, or both, the result was the same--options were limited for the traveller. At least you could still take the short walk off the Alaska Highway to the Summit Lake campsites to enjoy an afternoon lunch.

The BC Parks website shows a trail going from the eastern end of Summit Lake to the microwave tower (roughly centre of the photo).
