Upper Sumallo River Valley - Silvertip and Rideout from Payne # 13953

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2010.07.10
Vantage Point: From the summit of Mount Payne

Caption: Looking down into the broad upper Sumallo River Valley with the dramatic peaks Silvertip and Rideout rising above

PhotoDescr: A group of five of us spent a near full day hiking and scrambling Mount Payne from the Silver-Skagit Road. The south ridge we took wasn't too bad for bush and the route finding went well. The mosquitoes were a real pain, though.

The scrambling on the mid to upper ridge was very enjoyable and nothing went above a low Class 4. Nice views from the summit (and no mosquitoes) had us spend an hour up there. Snass is left rear in shot and Frosty is right rear. Tearse area and Brown are to the left of Silvertip.

Gullies east of the ridge were taken for the first part of the descent. As I was getting eaten alive once back on the south ridge, I went ahead and my route finding suffered a little back in the forest further down, but I always managed to get back on track. So after a few more zigs and zags than necessary I made it back down.
