Butter Pot Mountain (North Side) # 12627

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2009.05.18
Vantage Point: Taken from the CBS highway (route 60)

Caption: This is the north side of Butter Pot mountain as seen from the CBS highway.

PhotoDescr: I see this view pretty much every weekend when I go climbing in Holyrood. At one point, the road runs past a bog and provides this striking clear view. The north side of Butter Pot is pretty steep and the standard route up the mountain sneaks around the east side and then you walk up along the "back" of the mountain. The mountain looks like it might have some sport climbing potential and I've heard rumours of people checking it out: I've never taken the time for such a reconnaisance trip. The fact that there are no climbing routes frequented on the mountain is however telling: the rock is pretty loose and chunky and there are other ways to get to the top.
