Vantage Point: Approach up Augerpoint Mountain

Caption: Looking south to Syd Watts Peak (with radio tower) and Sid Williams peak poking out to the right

PhotoDescr: This photo was taken on a weekend trip up Augerpoint Mountain. We had debated which peak to climb (either Syd Watts or Augerpoint), and decided on Augerpoint.

Syd Watts Peak is often climbed as a side trip for people doing the traverse from Paradise Meadows/Albert Edward. The route is rumored to be Class 3, and goes up the left skyline in the picture.

The peak on the right is called Sid Williams Peak, probably more rarely climbed and a little trickier to get to from Syd Watts Peak.

Syd Watts and Sid Williams are names used in Philip Stone's guide, and seem to be the commonly used names for these peaks. Syd Watts Peak has also been called Augerpoint South in the Culbert and Fairley guides. Syd Watts was/is a prolific mountaineer on the Island.
