Bald Eagle Landing on Yellow Island # 11418

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 2008.05.15
Vantage Point: From trail on Yellow Island

Caption: Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

PhotoDescr: I have seen bald eagles frequently, including in Edmonton's river valley, but this occasion was the first time I managed to photograph one.

On a family vacation to Orcas Island in the San Juans, my daughter and I joined a guided kayak trip to Yellow Island, a small islet owned by the Nature Conservancy and accessible only with permission and by private boat. On the island, one is forbidden to eat, or deposit bodily wastes, or to leave the paths.

This eagle was one of a pair swooping around the island. Judging from the fuss a raven was making, its nest was under attack.
