Mount Elbert from Mount Massive # 10365

Below is a description of the photograph you were looking for, and the circumstances surrounding the photo.
Date: 1999.09.25
Vantage Point: From the summit of Mt. Massive

Caption: The northern slopes of the highest peak in Colorado as seen from the second highest peak.

PhotoDescr: I spent a week and a half hiking the Frisco/Dillon area with some friends. On the last full day there we drove through Leadville and headed up Mt. Massive. Getting above 12,000 feet, we were greeted with strong winds and fresh snow. Whilst my friends turned back I pressed on (it's not every day you get to hike up a 14,000 foot peak).

At around 13,000 feet I was slowed down by the thinner air and my bare legs were being stung when the strong winds whipped up the snow. It was all worth it when I made the summit, though I did not linger.
