Lat Long: (from Passx Record): 59.62250,-135.13969
One of the two famous passes from Skagway to the Yukon; the other was the Chilkoot a few miles to the north. The White Pass became the route of the White Pass & Yukon Railway, which still runs partial passenger service to and from Whitehorse (no longer to Skagway) although freight service continues (?). Just north of its summit, which as with the Chilkoot Pass helps define the US-Canada boundary, is Bennett Lake, which for a while hosted a town almost as large as Skagway and which was where the goldfields-bound adventurers built fleets of rafts to ferry their required one ton of goods the length of the lake. FtrAccess: The South Klondike Highway between Carcross and Skagway crosses White Pass. FtrHistory: See notes on Chilkoot Pass.
