Detail:On a detailed map, this pass is difficult to find. At first glance it would appear that the easternmost pass between Willow Wash and Fish Lake Valley is the correct one. However this pass leads a prominence island that is blocked by the Horse Thief Canyon. The real pass is an undescript saddle along the Eureka Valley Road northwest of the Horse Thief Canyon. The pass is the prominence saddle between Elbert and the higher Mount Whitney.
