This peak is #2 on the Height List for Oregon . This peak is #3 in Prominence List for Oregon .Mount Jefferson, the second higheast peak in Oregon, features an impressive summit pinnacle and several glaciers along its flanks. The mountain is more remote than other Oregon volcanoes and the climb is usually done as a 2-3 day trip. The final part to the summit is a Class 4 scramble on rotten rock. Note that there is also a high mountain in Nevada called Mount Jefferson.
Name Notes: Mount Jefferson was named by the explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark after Thomas Jefferson, 3rd president of the United States and the main sponsor of their expedition.
