This peak is #41 on the Height List for Washington . This peak is #40 in Prominence List for Washington .The highest mountain in the group at the head of the Pasayten River. It is easiest climbed from the south, but can also be climbed via a long class three ridge from Ptarmigan Peak to the north. The south slopes offer several easy scree gullies that lead to the summit.

Name Notes: This mountain was named after Lage Wernstedt, the legendary Forest Service surveyor who, in the early 1900s, first mapped and climbed many peaks in this area. He also was a pioneer aerial photographer, overcoming primitive equipment and incredibly remote terrain to produce perhaps the first aerial images of the Cascades in the 1920s and early 1930s.
