Black Peak from Lewis Lake
This peak is #23 on the Height List for Washington . This peak is #35 in Prominence List for Washington .Located about 6 kilometers west of Rainy Pass in the North Cascades of Washington State, Black Peak is a popular mountaineering objective, due to ease of access through a beautiful alpine area. Rainy Pass is accessible by vehicle via the North Cascades Highway (circa 270km from Vancouver), and a good trail leads one past Lake Ann, and through Heather Pass, to Lewis Lake and on to Wing Lake. This gives excellent access to the moderately sloped south side which is a scramble, and the more challenging northeast ridge which offers exposed climbing on a nearly knife edge ridge. The mountain is composed of highly fractured granite, and what loose rock there is can largely be avoided by climbing on the sides of the gullies (south side) and which offers excellent scrambling. The northeast ridge route is reported to be excellent as well, with the exception of some loose rock. There are scree/snow slopes which must be travelled in obtaining both the south side and northeast ridge.

Route Summaries exist for this mountain, but are only available to paid members.
