Lone Butte is a low, but steep-sided mesa type hill composed of columnar basalt found just above the village of Lone Butte. In form, it looks a little bit like the more famous Devils Tower (Wyoming) or Prince George's Teapot Mountain from certain angles. There is an easy hiking trail up the low angle back side. The summit is about 60m above the surrounding plateau offering a good view of rolling plateau and lakes as far as the eye can see in all directions. The lake SE of the summit is Irish Lake.
