|Chimney Rock is similar to the more well-known series of "Transformer Rocks" which begin at Siwash Rock and continue up the Fraser River. These are rocks which represent mythological people and animals who were turned to stone by the legendary agents of the divine known as the Transformers as they travelled up the Fraser. "Transformed" rocks and other places were created to serve as warnings or inspirations for the original inhabitants of the area, and sometimes to honour distinguished individuals or events. In this case, however, the work was Coyote's own - this was his domain; he had turned the Transformers back on the shores of Seton Lake near Lillooet.|
More interesting stories about Chimney Rock can be found in Lyle Knight's Central BC Rock guidebook. "The Coyote's Penis" is a literal translation of the native name for this feature.
* Lyle calls this route 5.4 in his guidebook but that was before he had climbed it himself. The 5.7 grade reflects his opinion of the difficulty after he had climbed it.
