This summit is on the east side of Montrose Creek, on the divide with Toba Glacier. It is a glaciated, triangular horn.
There is a higher, un-named summit of 2621m [John Clarke's Pk 8630) from the true Montrose; see CAJ'83 pp43-48] 2km N of Montrose.
Name Notes: Named for James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, 1612-1650 according to the Sir Walter Raleigh theme of the area. He was the most famous Scottish nobleman and soldier. He supported King Charles I in the English Civil War. During the civil war he was the most effective soldier. After the restoration of Charles II to the throne, he was hanged on May 21, 1650 by the parliament of Scotland.
