Crown Mountain from Northeast
Viewed from downtown Vancouver, Crown Mountain looks like a mostly forested peak capped with a rock crown. The true nature of the peak reveals itself from the north, a rarely seen vantage point. The north slopes are made up of long, steep rock faces. A trail from the top of the Grouse Mountain gondola leads to the summit of Crown Mountain via Crown Pass. The lower, western summit, bulky and pyramidal from most of Vancouver, is informally known as "The Sleeping Beauty". The main summit forms "The Pyramid" with the Camel gendarme immediately east and separated by a short steep notch.

1. SE side from Crown pass (1895) G. Edward, Knox, Musket, R. Parkinson. Scramble. From the parking lot for the Grouse Mountain chairlift, hike up any one of the well used trails to the top of Grouse mountain. Then head north on well marked trail past Dam Mountain, and Little Goat mountain. Eventually you come to a steep drop between little Goat and Goat, which goes down to Crown Pass. (The pass which divides Crown Creek from Hanes Creek). This trail is down a staircase of steep rocks and roots, with an occasional old rope; it requires ice axe when snow is on the ground. Once at the bottom, head up steep slopes to the left (west) and follow route toward summit. The trail skirts the cliffs of Crown's east face on the western side, crossing some mildly exposed slabs along the way. The final section is an easy scramble up to the peak. Elevation Gain including return: 599m from Gondola, 1439m from bottom. Equipment: Boots
