Ponor Peak, Deserted-Elaho Divide
Located at the head of Ponor Creek and the extreme northern end of the Ashlu-Elaho Divide. Drive or walk to the end of the Ashlu Main (elev. 3500ft). From the edge of the logging slash, bushwhack up to the sliver of a lake 1500m SE of the peak. It's easiest in June when avalanche gullies off adjacent Limelight Peak (Peak 7950) are filled in with snow. Otherwise, the bush is not all that unpleasant. Reach open ground near 4500ft and traverse into the bowl draining the lake. Climb north from the lake over snow and rock outcrops to the summit. You'll not likely run into many other climbers.

It's possible to traverse north along the Elaho-Jervis divide towards Deserted Peak. This is a multi-day excursion along open, rolling ridges, almost entirely above 5000ft. One possible exit is via Bierman Creek to Mile 48 on G-Main in the Elaho Valley (Note on Bierman Creek: Likely best when avalanche snow fills the lower reaches of Bierman canyon. Near 2500ft there's big timber and above 3000ft, more open ground.)

Name Notes: Ponor Peak was named as lying at the head of Ponor Creek and the large glacier on the northeast flank flowing into it. Ponor Creek is a logger's name.
