First Ascent: 1984 John Clarke
Located just at the easternmost extent of the Powell-Toba divide, before it curves back to the southwest. This peak has a 4 km square icefield on its eastern slopes, which runs right up to the summit. Looks like a ski ascent.

Name Notes: Named according to the Alfred the Great theme. Berkshire is the birthplace of Alfred, and one of the forty traditional counties of England. There were about 40 of these counties. These were used for several hundred years but abandoned in 1888. Berkshire is also the name given to the first of the high powered steam locomotives developed around 1921.
