Name Notes: The name "Mount John Clarke" became official on 2010 April 19. Named after noted mountaineer, explorer and conservationist John Clarke who passed away Jan 23, 2003. John was intimately connected to this area by his conservation efforts. The efforts to get the peak officially named for him were coordinated by Bivouac members Lisa Baile, John Baldwin and Glenn Woodsworth.

The peak was previously referred to as Sun Peak, an unofficial name which was in 1971 or 1972 by the Christian group Young Life. Sun Peak is also sometimes attributed to the slightly lower subpeak to the west. The name "J-J" or "Jay-Jay" has also been applied on occasion to the massif; this name also originated with Young Life.
