Hart Mountain is a rounded, tree-covered feature in the Porcupine Provincial Forest. A forestry road leads to a look-out tower on the summit. The area is known locally as the Porcupine Mountains, but is officially known as the Porcupine Hills. It is the second highest point in Manitoba, after Baldy Mountain, which is about 8 metres higher.

Although the elevation given is supported by several reference works, including the Natural Resources Canada web site, NTS 63 C/6 (Birch River), with 25-foot contour intervals, shows the summit within the 2600-foot contour, which means it is between 792 metres and 800 metres. The Canadian Atlas shows it as 797 m.
