Name Notes: Named after Howard Palmer who was an American Mountaineer that did some of the earlier climbing in the Selkirk Mountains with E.W.D. Holway and in the Rocky Mountains. Together Palmer and Holway were responsible for much of the initial exploration in the Selkirks from 1908 to 1912, and they made the first ascent of Mount Sir Sandford after huge struggles on approach. In fact, most of their trips were into very rugged country through very thick underbrush and forests. After many years in the Selkirks he turned his attention to the Canadian Rockies, sometimes with J.W.A. Hickson and was involved in twelve first ascents.
Palmer himself was said to be very knowledgable about Captain Cook's voyages and collected antique clocks, of which he was capable of fixing and had over one hundred of them in his collection.
