Shelagyote is the highest peak of the Sicintine Range, which lies in the "crook" of the Skeena River and just west of the Dease Lake Extension of the BCR (at Bear Lake/Bear River). Shelagyote is about 20km east of Shedin Peak, which is c.80km north of Hazelton (Hwy 16). It is separated from the Atna Range, of which Shedin is the highest, by a deep valley wherein lie the sources of Sicintine Creek and the Shelagyote River (both are tributaries of the Skeena, but the Shelagyote flows first into the Babine). Like Shedin, Shelagyote is surrounded by icefields despite its relative isolation from other ranges (other than the Atna and Babine Ranges).

Name Notes: Adopted in 1939.
