Name Notes: Named for Irish hymnist and poet Nahum Tate. Tate wrote the words for one of the oldest Christmas Carols known: "While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks" which was published in 1696. It was the only hymn authorized in the Anglican Church, before 1700 only the psalms of David were permitted. Based on the book of Luke 2:8-14.
