This peak is #78 in Prominence List for Alaska .An active, composite volcano in Katmai National Park at the head of the Katmai River. The whole summit is covered by glacial ice. There are several summit domes with the center one being the highpoint. The last recorded eruption was in 1946. Access is via the ranger station at Brooks Camp. Hike southwest along the gravel road to Wild Creek Overlook, and continue south along Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes to Katmai Pass. Ascend the northeast slope to reach the summit.
