Mount Gilbert from the Air
A high peak of the Compton Neve. "The Gilbert and Raleigh area struck us as somewhat aloof and unfriendly" said Bruce Fairley after skiing through the area. Nonetheless he returned to climb a 30-pitch 5.10 ridge route named "The Friendly Giant".

Name Notes: Gilbert is named after Sir William Gilbert, half brother of Sir Walter Raleigh, and the father of English colonization, who took possession of Newfoundland in 1583.
