Name Notes: Named after Sir Walter Raleigh (1554-1618), a famed poet of Elizabeth the First's court. After Elizabeth's death, he was charged with treason for supposed involvement in a plot by English Catholics to remove King James I from the throne. He was imprisoned in the Tower, and later beheaded.
This is another of the major peaks named for British history such as Good Hope and Monmouth.
