1.2 km N of Baker Lake, immediately NE of Deception Pass. Bridgland named the peak for reasons obvious underfoot.
Name Notes: Named in 1906 because numerous fossils are found on the peak. The first death from skiing in the Canadian Rockies happend on Fossil on April 7, 1933. Raymond Paley ascended Fossil but was killed in an avalanche on his way down. He was staying in nearby Skoki Lodge and left to ascend Fossil after lunch on April 7 when he disappeared. His tracks were found leading into a huge slab avalanche in which his body was found the following morning.
Some people claim to have been seen his ghost while skiing in the area.
