Mont Jacques-Cartier from the west
This peak is #10 on the Height List for Quebec . This peak is #2 in Prominence List for Quebec .Located in the Gaspésie national park in the Chic Choc Mountains. Mont Jacques-Cartier is is the highest mountain in southeastern Canada. The summit area is above the tree line. There is a stone observation tower just south of the highpoint. A busy, well-maintained trail reaches the summit from the northeast. Climbing on this peak is only allowed during the summer month to protect the woodland caribou. In 2014, access is from 10AM to 4 PM June 24 to September 30 only.

Name Notes: Named for the French explorer who claimed the continent for France in 1534.


1. From the northwest via Jacques-Cartier trail This trail is the shortest way to the summit. You take a shuttle bus to the trailhead and then it is a day hike to the summit. According to the Sepaq website, you can only do it from June 2
2. From the west From the Mont-Albert visitor center, drive up the road to Lac des Americains, then hike up to Lac Aux Americians and over the top of Xalibu, and then camp and bag the peak the next day.
