Wheeler, T.G. LongstaffLocated south of Quadra Mountain and northwest of Mount Whymper. Although the standard Chimney Peak is currently recognized for only the main bulk of the mountain at 591793, other opinions suggest that the mountain includes the blocky summit just SSE at 593777 as part of the mountain, its southeast extension. The reason is as follows: The large space separating the 2 summits is not a col, but rather a large chimney (wide crack) in the mountain separating it from the other summit. This chimney could be used during the climb, to gain either summit, and some believe this is why the term Chimney was used. The rock thrust that comprises both peaks is exactly the same, and the area separating the two peaks is part of the same thrust and forms a cliff as well. | | Trip Reports within 1 km CommentsPaper Maps | Subject Photos View Thumbnails 6 Chimney Peak Amy PressePlacename Photos 12 Chimney Peak and Quadra S2 above the Boom Glacier Eric Coulthard 3 Mount Quadra and Chimney Peak Kevin Altheim |
