This peak is #50 in Prominence List for Idaho .Thompson Peak is the highpoint of the rugged Sawtooth Range in central Idaho. The usual approach is via roads that lead to Redfish Lake to the east. From the lake, a trail leads partway to a basin on the east side of the summit massif. From the basin, scramble up to the col between Thompson Peak and Williams Peak, then head south and curl around the west side of Thompson Peak to its southwest ridge, which is a Class 3 scramble to the summit.
