Located just north of the upper reaches of the Chemainus River and just south of the headwaters of the South Nanaimo River. It is the highest point in Canada located south of the 49th parallel.
Name Notes: Named in 1864 by Robert Brown, after Frederick Whymper, artist, traveller, and explorer, who accompanied Brown on his Vancouver Island Exploring Expedition for the Geographical Society. Whymper was the brother of Edward Whymper, who made the first ascent of the Matterhorn.
