This peak is #12 on the Height List for California .Split Mountain is a rugged, double-summited massif on the Sierra Crest in the John Muir Wilderness. It's can be condidered an outlier of the Palisade group, and is sometimes referred to as the South Palisade, although it's located 7 km southeast of the main Palisade summits. The north summit is the high point. The north slope is mellow, offering a Class 2 scramble route to the summit, and making it one of the easiest 14,000 foot peaks in the Sierras. The east and west faces are much steeper, featuring several Class 5 routes.
