South Ridge of Welch Peak
Welch Peak is a sharp-pointed pyramidal summit, the highest peak in the Cheam Range. Despite its general ease of access, it is sometimes difficult to climb. One particular climber has reportedly failed to climb this peak despite 8 attempts. The south ridge and east ridge are the normal summit routes, both being exposed Class 3 scrambles. The south ridge is much longer but slighly easier technically. The rock quality varies from very loose to decent.

Name Notes: Welch Peak and its neighbours got their names from the turn-of-the-century engineering firm Foley, Welch & Stewart who were contractors in building the Canadian Northern Railway, and later contractors in the construction of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway. The PGE later became BC Rail, and most recently in 2005 has become part of the Canadian National Railway.

These peaks are also referred to as the "Lucky Four" group (Welch, Foley, Stewart and the Still). This name came from and old mine located at the glacier toe just northeast of the peak. The trail to the mine workings from Wahleach (Jones) Lake provided important access for early ascents of this mountain.

Route Summaries exist for this mountain, but are only available to paid members.
