This peak is #29 on the Height List for Colorado . This peak is #19 in Prominence List for Colorado .Mount Sneffels is a sharp tower composed of loose scree. The standard summit route is a scramble up the southwest ridge starting from Blue Lake Pass. The Blue Lake trail crosses this pass.

Name Notes: This name should be familiar to anyone who knows their Jules Verne. Sneffels is the name of the Icelandic volcano descended into the underworld by the intrepid professor, his nephew, and their stolid Icelandic Guide in "Journey to the Centre of the Earth".
