Mount Constance and Her Satellites, Olympic Mountains
A dramatic mountain in easternmost Olympic National Park. There are may subpeaks and pinnacles on the massif, as well as a glacier below the northwest face. Many technical rock routes exist on Mount Constance as well as some easy scramble routes. Access is from the Dosewallips River road. Before reaching the ranger station, hike up the trail that leads to Lake Constance and then continue north along Avalanche Canyon for about 1 km. Climb east up a gully known as the South Chute to gain a sharp col on the mountain's south ridge. Follow the complicated south ridge to the summit pinnacle, which is most easily climbed from the north (Class 3).
