Located between the Cornwall Hills and the Lower Hat Creek stretch of Highway 99, the Trachyte Hills are remote and rugged and mostly traversed by adventurous 4x4ers. This is part of the back range of the local ranches based in Cache Creek and Hat Creek. The NE subpeak 1390m is not formally part of the Trachyte Hills; it is the height of the ridge which parallels Highway 97 from the Cottonwood House heritage site at Carquile to Cache Creek.
