Cassiope Peak from the West
Located 6 km N of the upper end of Lillooet Lake. It is at the south end of the ridge that divides Joffre Creek from the Birkenhead River. Cassiope Peak and Saxifrage Mountain form a southern outlying ridge from the Place Glacier Group. Cassiope can be accessed from logging spur roads in the N Joffre Creek drainage and also from the west via Spetch Creek.

Name Notes: Pronunciation: kass-SY-oh-pee. Note that it is "Cassiope Peak" not "Cassiope Mountain". Unfortunately there is also another official Cassiope Peak in BC, near the Primrose Icefield.

Cassiope was named for one of the species of Cassiope, or white heather. There are several species of this heather, Cassiope mertensiana white mountain heather and Cassiope stellerina Alaskan mountain heather or Cassiope Tetragona, four sided heather. By whatever name, the white heather abounds in the meadows of the area. The flower itself was named for "Cassiopeia", the queen of Ethiopia & mother to Andromeda in the Perseus legend of Greek mythology.

1. Northwest Ridge scramble. This is the easiest way up, although a bit longer than the bushy direct route from the east. In winter and spring, this route can be ascended and descended on skis

The Saxifrage - Casiope col is typically reached from the Spetch Creek and Valentine Lake, and sometimes from North Joffre Creek.
