Field Help for Town or City

Put the town you live in or are closest to. Please spell the name exactly as on the map. Eg: Mount Currie not Mt. Currie. Your spelling should match the way the town is spelled in the Bivouac database. If your town is not in the database, it will be added. Here are some examples:

 SURREY --> Surrey
 N Vancouver --> North Vancouver
 Mt Currie --> Mount Currie
 Pt Coquitlam --> Port Coquitlam
 Ste Adele --> Sainte Adele
 St. Albert --> St Albert (Do not include period)

Some specific issues are below:

  1. Abbreviations These are not consistently handled on the maps. In some cases the word is spelled out. Eg: Mount Currie, not Mt Currie. In other cases, the abbreviation is what appears on the map. Eg: St Albert not Saint Albert. In general, the period is NOT included in the spelling on the map. Eg: St Albert not St. Albert.

  2. For towns in Quebec, use the spelling on the 1:50,000 maps, but don't include the accents, so that search functions work properly. Here are some examples:
     Sainte-Adele (include the hyphen, but not the accent on the "e"
     Montreal (no accents, the english spelling)

  3. Do not use all upper case. Eg: Surrey not SURREY.

  4. Rural If you don't actually live in a town, put the nearest town. (if within 20 km).
