Bivouac member and North Shore Rescue member Johannes (Hannes) Mullegger died in a crevasse fall on Thursday, April 23, 2009 on the Compton Neve, a massive icefield on the British Columbia central coast. He fell about 30 m into a crevasse while skiing down from an unnamed peak on the way to climb Mount Gilbert. This happened during the first day of a planned 11-day ski tour.
The two other ski-tour members rappeled into the crevasse but could not detect a pulse. They retrieved a satellite phone from Hannes pack and used it to call for help.
