Results of a study on avalanche deaths reported in the March 3, 2009 issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal (previously reported on at the 2008 ISSW conference in Whistler).
Emergency trauma physician and mountain guide Dr. Jeff Boyd, and medical doctors Riyad B. Abu-Laban, Michael Shuster, and John C. Butt, and avalanche researcher Dr. Pascal Haegeli, have recently (March 3, 2009) published an excellent study on avalanche deaths in British Columbia and Alberta that should be of great interest to winter recreationists. The study covers a 21 year period between 1984 and 2005 and assessed 204 fatal incidents.
