In Memoriam: Tony Cousins #2482


Pioneering climber Tony Cousins, aged 70, died of a heart attack on Monday, July 28, 2008 while climbing at the Smoke Bluffs in Squamish. Tony was a most gracious man who went out of his way to help up and coming climbers learn the ropes. He is credited with completing the first ascent of Slab Alley- one of the first climbs completed on the Chief's Apron. He also completed numerous other routes, or variations of routes, that were later claimed as first ascents by others- but that was in an era when taking credit for a first ascent was really not all that important; when what really mattered
