Recently a bivouac reader emailed me asking for some advice on buying and sizing boots. I'm certainly not an expert, but I've made lots of mistakes, and so perhaps it would help. It seems that many of the experts these days are giving bad advice.
So I'm going to talk about both ski boots and hiking boots. I'm talking about getting a good set of boots for moving big distances under your own power, not just downhill skiing.
